We are currently working with the Mine Site Maintenance Team to source highly experienced maintenance trainers on a 24-month contract. We seek to appoint a bilingual English / French General Foreman who will provide management, supervision and technical support to the fixed equipment maintenance teams. The position is responsible for all fixed equipment, which include ore processing, pumps, generators, compressors, etc. Overall the incumbent will promote safety and drive continuous improvement in work practices, equipment selection, whilst ensuring maximum availability.

The Role

Responsibilities will include:

  • Maintenance of all fixed equipment, including the 200 km pipeline
  • Work closely with the Supply Chain Department in regard to inventory control – forecast, ordering and availability of critical spares
  • Perform maintenance work whilst respecting statutory requirements, local laws & regulations as well as OEM equipment safety requirements
  • Promote preventive maintenance by motivating personnel to prepare effective work schedules in conjunction with the Maintenance Planning department and participate in planning and scheduling meetings as required
  • Provide direct maintenance support through first level supervisors on shift and across several areas
  • Train personnel in proper maintenance and operation best practices
  • Produce work procedures, Safe Work Plans and Job Safety Analysis
  • Monitor the quality of workmanship for staff and contractors
  • Perform Safety workplace audits of work areas
  • Be prepared to act as the Maintenance Superintendent when needed
  • Draft and confirm weekly work schedules in conjunction with the operations personnel from both the processing and mining operations group
  • Provide monthly safety reviews
  • Supervise and follow up on safety issues raised during daily toolbox meetings
  • Perform daily approvals of equipment purchases using the maintenance management system
  • Prepare monthly reports and / or provide information to the planning group

The Requirements

  • Bilingual English / French skills required
  • Trade Certificate or Technical diploma / degree
  • Mechanical Technician / Technologist or Millwright with Equivalent Experience
  • Demonstrated ability to train local the local workforce
  • 10 years maintenance experience in processing plant equipment such as pumps, conveyors, mineral sizers, jaw and cone crushers, scrubbers, ball/rod mills, thickener drives/ rakes etc.
  • Good knowledge of electrical equipment and operating parameters
  • Knowledge of maintenance for large piping systems and associated piping standards up to class 900
  • Experience in the maintenance of large water and slurry pipeline systems (600 mm dia) and associated hydraulically actuated slurry ball valves
  • Solid knowledge of predictive maintenance techniques and their application
  • Progressive roles in management with the ability to manage budgets and forecasts both yearly and long term
  • Demonstrated ability to train and mentor developing country nationals
