Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum Convention 2013
Globe 24-7 was pleased to attend the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) convention, which took place 5 – 8 May 2013 in Toronto, Ontario. The CIM is the leading technical society of professionals in the Canadian minerals, metals, materials and energy industries. It has over 13,000 members from industry, academia and government.
Global Leadership – The Courage to Change was the main theme of the convention. There was a strong focus on the financial challenges the Canadian mining industry is currently facing, attested to by thousands of mining professionals who attended the CIM 2013 convention to network and discuss steps to promote success under the current conditions. Another notable event was the The Women in Mining group, who shared best practices in workplace diversity through case studies and an open Panel discussion.
The trade show held over 400 exhibitors and Globe 24-7 consultants Giselle Kimos and Victoria Moreno, had the opportunity to spend 2 days interacting with major players in the mining sector at the showroom. The CIM Networking Opportunity Event provided a great platform for us to be present in our extended mining network; establishing great business relationships with leaders of mining companies and affiliated organizations.
Giselle and Victoria came away from the convention armed with valuable insight into current needs and challenges of recruitment and human resources within the industry and relished the opportunity to discuss upcoming projects and mining strategies face-to-face with VPs, Human Resource Directors, Geologists, and other professionals working at leading companies such as Xstrata, Golder Associates, Vale, De Beers, Goldcorp, Sherritt International, KHGM International, Amec, SNC Lavalin and Hatch.
